Blue Belt Requirement #4: Ouchi Gari Takedown
Your classIn this jiu jitsu video lesson, you'll learn how to do a jiu jitsu variation of the ouchi gari judo takedown from Eduardo Rocha, jiu jitsu champion and 4th degree black belt under Royler Gracie. This takedown is extremely useful technique to learn because it allows you to pass your opponent's guard after executing the takedown. Passing the guard is one of the most important objectives of jiu jitsu and can earn you points in jiu jitsu tournaments.

Grab each other by the sleeve and lapel
Begin in a standing position and grab your opponent's gi sleeve with one hand and his gi lapel with your other hand.
Step foward and pull elbow into chest
On the side that you are grabbing your opponent's sleeve, step forward placing your foot directly in front of his foot on the same side. At the same time as you step, pull your opponent's elbow down and into your chest as you lean your upper body forward.
Hook opposite leg between opponent's legs
Place your opposite leg between your opponent's legs, then look backwards behind your shoulder as you bend your leg, hooking onto your opponent's leg.
Drop knee to the floor
With your hooked leg, drop your knee to the floor right behind his foot. This will cause him to trip and fall backwards, leaving him wide open to gain control inside his guard.
