Begin inside opponent's closed guard
The starting position for this jiu jitsu technique is inside your opponent's closed guard. This is when both of you are on the floor and your opponent's legs are wrapped around your body and locked behind you, preventing you from attacking.
Grab lapel and press belt to chest
Grab your opponent's gi lapel with one hand and grab his belt with your other hand. Use your hand to press his belt into his chest.
Extend your leg straight back
Lean forward and extend one leg straight back. Bend your other leg behind his hips, blocking his movement.
Push leg open with hand
Sit up slightly for leverage, then use place your hand on top of your opponent's knee. Use your body weight and hips to push your opponent's leg down to the floor your hand. This will unlock his legs, opening his guard for an attack.
